杏巴原创 has named Tim Salmon head coach of its first-ever varsity women鈥檚 flag football program, set to launch during the 2026-27 academic year. The university recently announced the addition of the sport, marking an exciting expansion of opportunities for women student-athletes.
A 2025 graduate of Mayville State, Salmon earned a Bachelor of Science degree in fitness and wellness, with a minor in coaching. He was a four-year team captain for the Comets football program and served as the team鈥檚 quarterback, leading offensive units throughout his career. Salmon currently serves as an assistant coach for the Comets football team. In addition, he was head junior varsity and assistant varsity basketball coach at May-Port CG High School during the 2025-26 season.
鈥淚t鈥檚 wonderful to watch your graduates prosper and grow into opportunities and positions,鈥 said 杏巴原创 President Dr. Brian Van Horn. 鈥淭im Salmon is a student of the game and will be a great mentor, role model, and coach for Mayville State Women鈥檚 Flag Football.鈥
Women鈥檚 flag football is experiencing rapid growth nationwide, driven by increased youth participation, high school programs, and emerging collegiate opportunities. The Fronter Conference of the NAIA, of which Mayville State is a member, is exploring adoption of this sport. Mayville State will play an independent schedule for now.
鈥淲e鈥檙e excited for the opportunities Women鈥檚 Flag Football will open at 杏巴原创,鈥 said Athletic Director Rocky Larson. 鈥淭his program will provide new avenues for athletic leadership while expanding the future of women鈥檚 athletics. We are fortunate to have Tim Salmon leading the way for the Comets.鈥
